CASTLE 2 contributes to safer, more informed, and more responsible migration, for the benefit of migrants, their families, and societies in destination countries.
CASTLE 2 – Support for transnational families of Bangladeshi migrants in the EU is a project implemented in Bangladesh, Romania, and Greece, coordinated by Babeș-Bolyai University, in partnership with Terre des hommes Romania, Terre des hommes Hellas, and Terre des hommes Bangladesh.
Against the backdrop of increasing labor migration from Bangladesh to EU member states such as Romania and Greece, CASTLE 2 aims to improve access to rights, services, and protection for Bangladeshi migrants and their families remaining in the country or living in Europe.
Although migration offers important livelihood opportunities, Bangladeshi migrants and their families face persistent vulnerabilities throughout the migration cycle. These include high recruitment costs, exposure to exploitative practices, limited access to reliable information, language barriers, and difficulties in accessing social services and legal protection in destination countries. At the same time, families left behind in Bangladesh often bear the social, emotional, and economic burdens of migration, with limited formal support mechanisms available.
The project will produce in-depth research, train professionals in Romania to work more effectively with the Bangladeshi community, provide accurate information to migrants and their families, and create platforms for dialogue between authorities, civil society, and academia.
The 27-month project aims to:
- increase the understanding and involvement of actors in Romania, Greece, and Bangladesh in the needs of transnational families;
- strengthen the skills of professionals working with migrants;
- provide accurate and accessible information to Bangladeshi communities;
- stimulate policy dialogue and cooperation between institutions;
- promote a balanced public narrative about the lives of migrants and transnational families.

The project is co-funded by the European Union and contracted by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) through the Migration Partnership Facility.
