How do children feel in school? Study on school climate in Romania

At the invitation of Joining Forces, an alliance of major child protection organizations (Terre des hommes, Save the Children, World Vision, SOS Children's Villages), a team of teachers tested a tool to measure how students feel about their school. They administered questionnaires to all 3 cycles of education and conducted focus groups with pupils, teachers, school managers and parents.

The quality of students' school life could be improved if it became common practice in Romania to measure school climate by having students complete a School Climate Profile questionnaire. The tool, already tested in 15 schools, could be applied by the educational units in our country, if a software that automatically creates the school profile was created. With the School Climate Profile, each school could assess its own school climate and then intervene in a targeted way to improve the school atmosphere.
