Summer School, at the end: smiles and posters on the theme "My life in Romania"

Artista vizuală Anastasia Palii ii ghideaza pe copiii ucraineni in realizarea de postere

Ukrainian children, older and younger, excited and smiling at the same time, presented on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, in Bucharest, the final works of the Summer School: posters on the theme "My life in Romania". After lunch, the participants received graduation diplomas, while their colleagues and the team of Terre des hommes Romania (Tdh) applauded them. Terre des hommes has organized this school.

On the last day of August, the Universul Palace resounded again at the musical instruments of the specialist Jean-Baptiste Manitou, while the visual artist Anastasia Palii launched a challenge for the children: to conceive a poster in which to combine the text with the image.

The workshop that Anastasia held over several weeks had the theme "My life in Romania". New creative methods and techniques were tested. About working with children, the artist says that it is a beautiful experience and a challenge at the same time: "It depends on everyone's motivation, attitudes and involvement. If they are passionate about the activity, then it is easier for me to guide them too."

The first week, the children practiced with Anastasia Palii the basic elements and principles of a graphic composition. In the second week, they introduced color into the composition and practiced with the shape of the letters. Subsequently, they made compositions by collage technique and applied compositional principles in the photo.

At the last meeting, the children created a poster, combining the text with the image. After presenting their posters to the others, the 13 children received, in cheers, diplomas from volunteers, animators and trainers. The participants told Radu Răcăreanu, Programme Manager - Emergency Response Ukraine Refugee Crisis Tdh, that they had a great time and that they would like the Summer School to be repeated.

In the context in which many of these children had to leave their schools and their homes months ago, it is very important to have such an activity that brings them together and highlights their talent, also giving them the opportunity to express themselves. Art helps the development and emotional balance, specialists show, and such initiatives are essential. The Summer School for Ukrainian children was organized by Terre des hommes Romania during August 2022, at the Universul Palace in Bucharest.

Terre des hommes Romania's intervention to support refugee Ukrainian children is possible thanks to the participation and financial contribution of the Crisis and Support Center of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, City of Zurich, Z Zurich Foundation and Swiss Solidarity.
